I look at the Oxford and I think that universities tear young people away from reality, and that it is impossible to return to reality after university illusions. As a result, few people in the world are capable of solving the problems that have accumulated before humanity. The best teacher is life itself. Philosophers, historians, lawyers and journalists must work in seven different businesses, communicate with a wide range of people and learn a living and practical psychology. Academic psychology is only suitable for intellectual narcissists to entertain their peers over cups of coffee. A practicing intellectual person does not need forty subjects studied in universities, but much less. So you need to come to the university once a year for a week or two not only to take a small number of exams (one exam per year), but above all to communicate with intelligent people who help to systematize the experience gained during discussions. . It is necessary to implement the principle of Socrates: it is not necessary to put ready-made theories in a person's brain, but to let theories be born in his brain. So we do not need conferences, but debates on questions from real life. And to have food for discussion, you have to immerse yourself in real life, and not be in an artificial university environm.

You'll notice one of the prominent features of the city, a 10-storey brutalist tower block (probably the closest thing Bangor had to a 'skyscraper') known as the Alun Roberts Building (aka the Chemistry Tower), covered with scaffolding in the process of demolition. This was the university's chemistry building, where my dad used to work over a decade ago, which had sadly fallen out of use in recent times. I wonder will be built in its place.

Yorkshire Dales ???? National Park, but these are the Westmorland Dales, and you're in Cumbria...or Westmorland if you prefer. Definitely not Yorkshire. I know very pedantic but imagine if you ascribed parts of Yorkshire to another county the White Rose would cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war ......🤣👍.(Ironic I opted for a Lancastrian there😉🤫)

You both claim that Newcastle is not in Northumberland any more with reference to the Local Government Act of 1974 and refer to Hull as in the "East Riding" of Yorkshire. Both cannot be concurrently true. For what it's worth, the 1974 legislation did not change the borders of the historic counties so therefore Hull is in the East Riding and Newcastle is in Northumberland.

My old man comes from Halifax and moved to Scotland in the late 70's. When we used to go see my Gran, who lived on Dyson Road late (80's-untill early 2000's), there were always conversations about no go areas for white people in HX. Gibbet street was mentioned, can't remember the other areas names. Is this still happening today in the town?
